How to Get Breastpumps Covered By Insurance!

Thanks to Obamacare, breastfeeding moms can get pricey breastpumps and visits to lactation consultants covered by their insurance. The government does not bear the costs of providing breast pumps. Instead, insurers will have to pay for the new benefit.
Though the Affordable Care Act was passed months ago, I still come across many breastfeeding new mommies who are unaware of this wonderful benefit. Those who did know didn't know where to start or who to go, and more importantly that the insurance companies will provide coverage only if the breastpump is purchased directly from a medical supply company, such as Edgepark Medical Supply. Call your insurance company to find a list of medical supply companies. I was insured by Blue Cross Blue Shield and got a Medela Pump In Style Breastpump (ARV $300) from this Edgepark Medical.

NOTE: Do not purchase from retailers such as Babies R Us, Buy Buy Baby etc., as the most insurance companies will not cover if purchased through them.

Please pass this news onto other new mommies!

  4. Thanks so much for posting this. I was about to buy one! I didn't know this. I have Blue Cross as well. How soon before your baby was born could you order the breast pump? Did you have to pay anything out of pocket?

    1. My pleasure! You can order as soon as the day your baby is born. It comes very quickly. Did not have to pay anything out of pocket at all. Congratulations!!!
